Give your pet some TLC & CBD

As the caption reads above, "A Healthy Pet is a Happy Pet". By now we’ve all seen and heard how all of the benefits CBD can be used with humans. But what we don’t hear about as often is information about CBD usage for companion animals – our dogs, cats, and horses. It shouldn’t surprise you to learn that the CBD market for pets is exploding as much as it is for humans. But there are some important things to know about this facet of the industry, so let’s take a look at the four things to know about CBD use for pets.

The Products

Like for humans, there are hundreds of options when it comes to picking a CBD product for you pet. Pet owners are looking for natural and non-toxic remedies in place of prescriptions and over the counter products. Currently there are many different products to choose from; CBD oil/tincture, treats, chews, topicals, shampoos, and many more. We recommend starting with the oil/tincture bottles to ensure your pet is receiving the proper dosage. The three options available from Element Pet are, 300 mg (small pet), 750mg (medium pet), and 2,500mg (large pet).

CBD Benefits for Pets While where are, at this point, limited clinical research studies, there is an abundance of compelling evidence of the therapeutic effects of CBD for pets. Pet owners want to give their pets the same benefits and opportunities they have themselves, and that extends to food choices, supplements and treatments. In the case of CBD, many of our customers have shared their testimonies on how effective CBD can be for their pets; management of chronic pain, inflammation, anxiety (separation anxiety, noise anxiety- loud sounds), stress, skin irritation, seizures and many more.

Know Your CBD Brand As with any product you or your pet consume, quality does matter. As there is still minimal regulation, it is up to the consumer to do the research and ensure the product you are giving your pet is high quality, that it is what it claims to be. Examine the COA (Certificate of Analysis) to verify ingredients, potency, presence of metals, and pesticides and per unit dosing. Just because a product says it contains CBD, doesn’t mean it actually does. Do your research.

Dosing for Your Pet

The first step to finding the minimum effective dose for your pet is to talk to your veterinarian and establish a baseline dosage. Since many pet owners report good results with CBD at low doses, we suggest you start with a minimal dose and slowly increase the dosage until you find your pet's desired results. Start with a small baseline dosage daily and increase based on your pets weight, severity of symptoms, and results. After the initial 7 days of your baseline CBD dosage, if your pet is not receiving the benefits they need, then increase the daily dosage by 1 - 2mg every 3 days until you find the dosage that works best for your pet. Once you have determined your minimum effective dose you may wish to decrease your dosage by one step to see if you can maintain the benefits at a slightly lower dosage. Remember, do you research and consult your veterinarian prior to use. CBD is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases.
